Artist Talk at The Photographers’ Gallery, London, in Collaboration with Polaroid
On 13 September 2024, Cyrus gave a talk at The Photographers’ Gallery, part of the public programme of the institution. Titled ‘Real Life is Not Black and White’ and moderated by art historian Flora Vesterberg, Cyrus spoke about his journey with photography and presented a brand new series made in collaboration with Polaroid. The photographs – made using Polaroid’s new-formula B&W film and I-2 camera – depict the artist’s loved ones and places that hold special significance for him. Inspired by his parents’ experience of losing precious family photos during the chaotic circumstances of the Iranian revolution, he was interested in exploring the emotional power of photographs as repositories of memory and family history.
